Spend a little time today

There is no doubt that there are certain attribute, differences and qualities that establish and define a Christian.

When I was in London the other day I was impacted by the immense, the tide of

humanity. On the streets the underground, the buses there is a mixture of just about

every tribe and tongue on the face of the earth. Each one is different, each one created

to reflect Gods creation in a different way and the sum of them all is humanity.

But as I looked at little closer at these people, I began to notice that some where

wearing orange robes, some were wearing turbans, some faces were covered by

yashmaks, some had tattoos some wore almost no clothes and the list went on.

The point I am trying to make is that they were all making a statement of what they

believed and who they were, and it was at this point I began to wonder are there any

Christians here, how would I tell ?

Surely Gods own would stand out in a crowd of strangers, surely it would be evident

that there were Christians there. ?

But I couldn’t see any

Then the Holy Spirit spoke to me and gently reminded me that we are not defined by

the clothes we wear or the fashion statement we make ,God looks at the heart and we

are defined by what he says we are not by what we do or the clothes we wear.

But I persisted and said, but surely where is the witness, why can't I see the light and

taste the salt The Holy spirit was silent for a moment, then said.

My people are there.

But I said why can't I see them?

I didn’t get an answer.

So over the next few days I searched my heart and began to dig a bit deeper. I found

this is in Word for today.

A real Christian stands out in a crowd, their Character is deeper, their ideas fresher,

their spirit softer, their courage greater, their leadership better, their concerns wider,

their compassion more genuine, their convictions more concrete. They are joyful

inspire circumstance and show wisdom beyond there years, they are full of surprises.

You think you have them boxed in but you discover that they walk out of the box.

When you are around them you feel off balance because you don't always know what

to expect next, but over time you come to know their ideas and leadership can be

trusted.

I couldn’t help but agree this was indeed a real Christian. But why, what was the Key

It was simple the real Christian, knows God.

The real Christian that stands out in a crown has intimacy with the Father son and

Holy Spirit

Our text for today is Samuel 3 starting at verse one.

1Sa 3:1  and the child Samuel served Jehovah before Eli. And the Word of Jehovah was rare in those days.

There was no open vision.

1Sa 3:2  and it happened at that time, when Eli was lying down in his place, and his eyes began to become dim so that he

could not see.

These 2 verses, give an indication of the spiritual condition of the people at the time

and also have the anointed one of God, or the Christians if you like.

His eyes had become so dim he could no longer see.

There was no spiritual sight and revelation because I believe, Eli had lost his intimacy

with God.

Why was this ?

Sin: Sin blinds our eyes and stops our ears, until we become disconnected from God.

Sin hardens our heart until we no longer have time for a relation ship with God. Sin

Kills intimacy.

1Sa 3:3  and the lamp of God had not gone out. And Samuel was lying down in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God was.

But it says here... God's light still burnt.

God hadn't given up he was looking for some one who would answer him.

Someone who would be real Christian.

1Sa 3:4  And Jehovah called Samuel. And he answered, here am I.

1Sa 3:5  and he ran to Eli, and said, here am I. For you called me. And he said, I did not call. Go and lie down again. And he went to lie down.

1Sa 3:6  And Jehovah called again, Samuel! And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, here am I, for you called me. And he answered, I did not call, my son. Go back, lie down.

1Sa 3:7  And Samuel did not yet know Jehovah, and the Word of Jehovah had not yet been revealed to him.

1Sa 3:8  And Jehovah called Samuel again, the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, here am I, for you called me. And Eli saw that Jehovah had called the child.

1Sa 3:9  And Eli said to Samuel, Go, and lie down; and it shall be, if one calls you, you shall say, Speak, Jehovah, for your servant hears. And Samuel went to lie down in his place.

1Sa 3:10  And Jehovah came and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel! Then Samuel answered, Speak, for your servant hears.

So we see that the young boy Samuel take the place of Eli as Gods priest.

But what has this got to do with, me.

Well one of the things that separates us from God is Busyness?

We are too busy to pray

We are too busy to study

We are too busy to just sit in Gods presence and just be a child and let him be Father.

But if we want to be a real Christian this is what we must cherish above all things we

must cherish and spend quality time with God. Not left over or throw always.
