We Must believe, only believe
In
the New Testament, there is the account of Lazarus. Today I want to speak on
this.
Why
because it is a miracle, yes, but also because it talks about life and shows us
without doubt the resurrection power of Christ Jesus.
John 11:2
(And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and
wiped His feet with her hair,
whose brother Lazarus was
sick.)
John 11:3 then his sisters sent to Him, saying, Lord, behold, he
whom you love is sick.
When
Jesus was confronted by a lie or something that ran against the truth his
immediate reaction was to reveal the truth. In the story of Lazarus, we can see
that when Jesus was heard the news that his friend was dying his immediate
reaction was this.
John 11:4 When Jesus heard, He said, this
sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that the son of man may be
glorified.
His reaction was not one of Sympathy although it is clear that
Jesus Loved Lazarus as a dear friend .His reaction was not to say “Oh dear what
a shame what shall we do.
Because sympathy is a counterfeit of compassion and will not solve
a thing, it is a worldly reaction only created to make us feel better about
ourselves, and as a weak form of compassion that it mirrors; it is a powerless
answer to Gods healing.
No Jesus spoke out truth that immediately brought hope and light
into a situation that looked desperate, and said that this sickness was not
going to kill him.
In this world, we are at times confronted with a darkness that
appears so intense and the place we are in so desperate that we can be swayed
and we can be blinded. We can forget who we are, and the truth that has freed
us.
But this is the FIGHT OF FAITH, to believe the truth of God in an
unbelieving world.
Jesus said
John 16:33 in the
world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the
world.
1John 4:4 He who is in
you is greater than he who is in the world.
We must believe, only
believe.
